My Artist Story: Seatton
This short artist film is the first in a new documentary series, My Artist Story, profiling learning disabled and neurodivergent artists from Artbox London. The series captures personal and creative portraits of artists whose work challenges convention and expands our understanding of contemporary art practice.
Seatton’s distinct visual language, often combining monoprinting, collage, and fashion imagery, reflects a rich inner world and a powerful drive to create. Filming took place at the Artbox studio in Islington, where we documented his process and layered techniques across drawing, painting, and print.
To reflect the tactility of Seatton’s practice and his creative environment, we integrated 16mm film elements alongside digital footage, crafting a textured viewing experience. The visual approach mirrors Seatton’s layered artistic style, combining close-up handheld shots of mark-making with quiet, observational frames that hold space for stillness and concentration. We used natural light and shallow focus to emphasise detail and materiality, while fast-paced sequences of magazine clippings and art materials reflect the dynamic, collaged nature of his process.
The 16mm film used was generously provided by Kodak.
