My Artist Story: Seatton
artist film
This short artist film is the second in a new documentary series, My Artist Story, profiling learning disabled and neurodivergent artists from Artbox London. The series captures personal and creative portraits of artists whose work challenges convention and expands our understanding of contemporary art practice.
In this film with Violet, we set out to explore the emotional depth of her art and the way it reflects her personal journey through grief and healing. The film follows her to the Petrie Museum, where she shares her long-standing fascination with Egyptian cats and the mythology of the underworld - symbols that echo her feelings around death, loss, and transformation. These themes resonate deeply in her work, which she describes as a barometer of her emotions. Following the loss of her mother, her art became darker, expressing her pain and sorrow. Over time, her palette has shifted to brighter colours that reflect a gradual movement toward acceptance and light. For Violet, making art is not just therapeutic; it’s a way of making sense of life’s most difficult moments, turning emotion into colour, texture, and form.
