Artist in Focus

Marie-Louise von Motesiczky

To mark International Women’s Day, this short film explores one of the many connections between the Fitzwilliam Museum and The Women’s Art Collection in Cambridge.

The film features curator Harriet Loffler reflecting on Marie-Louise von Motesiczky’s paintings At the Dressmaker’s and Portrait of Elizabeth, examining the artist’s portrayal of women’s inner lives, relationships, and roles in society.

At the Dressmaker’s is part of the Fitzwilliam Museum’s display Women: Makers and Muses, and both works are drawn from The Women’s Art Collection, Europe’s largest collection of art by women, housed at Murray Edwards College.
